地雷系Jirai kei

Origin/JapanCountry

A Japanese style built on black and pink, holding sweetness and shadow in the same outfit. It keeps every marker of cuteness, then lets something darker sit underneath.

How it spread

It grew through social media from the late 2010s, tied to the vocabulary of yamikawaii (sick-cute). It is now mainstream enough that major shopping centres carry dedicated floors for it.

How to recognise it

Black as the base with pink accents, ribbons and frills, platform shoes. Ryosangata shares the sweetness but stays in white and pink; jirai kei carries far more black, and reads darker.

What it costs

A dress typically runs ¥5,000–15,000. The realistic way in is one brand piece anchoring an outfit built mostly from cheaper items.
