The sweet, frill-and-ribbon uniform of Japanese idol fandom. The name — literally 'mass-produced' — comes from how similar everyone looks at the same event.
How it spread
It grew alongside idol event culture, where dressing alike is part of the pleasure rather than a failure of originality. The name carries self-irony, and wearers use it approvingly.
How to recognise it
Bright white-and-pink palettes, oversized ribbons, layered chiffon and tulle. It uses much of the same vocabulary as jirai kei, but drops the black and raises the brightness.
What it costs
¥3,000–18,000. Many people keep one proper outfit for events and assemble cheaper versions for everyday wear.
